Mathieu’s strong play in his rookie season has caught the attention on NHL scouts. He has been ranked in the Top 100 by NHL Central Scouting which bodes well for this June’s draft.The 17 year old native of Montreal is matched most night’s against the opposition’s top line. That’s says a lot for guy who played midget hockey last season for Laurentides in the Quebec AAA Midget League. Because of his size it is easy to see why he lists Chris Pronger of the Anaheim Ducks as his hockey hero. Mathieu scored one of the most memorable goals of the season early this year against Halifax when he scored the game winner in a 24-shooter marathon at Centre 200. If it wasn’t hockey for Mathieu then playing baseball for his favorite team the Boston Red Sox would be his dream job. Although he has quiet demeanor, Mathieu’s favourite movie is Ace Venture Pet Detective starring his favourite actor Jim Carrey.
