Eagles Take 2-0 Series Lead
The Screaming Eagles blanked the Lewiston Maineiacs 3-0 on Saturday night at Centre 200 to take a 2-0 lead in their best-of-seven Eastern Division Playoff Series.
Nick MacNeil, Robert Slaney and Jeremy Gouchie looked after the scoring for the Screaming Eagles.
Rookie goaltender Olivier Roy stopped 18 shots for his first career playoff shutout.
Jonathan Bernier was solid in goal for Lewiston despite taking the loss. The Maineiacs netminder stopped 40 of 43 shots as he did his best to keep his team in the game.
The first period saw the Screaming Eagles pepper the Maineiacs goaltender with 21 shots. He kept the Screaming Eagles at bay until the 18:26 mark when MacNeil banged home his second goal of the playoffs on rebound from the lip of the goal crease. Joey Haddad and Jordan Clendenning picked up assists on the play.
The game would remain that way until the ripped a point shot past a screened Bernier on an Eagles power play at 7:38 of the middle frame. For Slaney it was his second goal of the post-season. Murdock MacLellan and Francis Meilleur helped out on the play.
Jeremy Gouchie would add an insurance marker finishing a perfect feed from Chris Culligan for his first career playoff goal. Nicolas Chouinard also picked up an assist on the play.
The series will switch to Lewiston for games Three and Four on Tuesday and Wednesday night.
