Haddad Leads Eagles Past Maineiacs
Joey Haddad had five points in his playoff debut as the Screaming Eagles downed the Lewiston Maineiacs 8-3 in game one of their best-of-seven QMJHL playoff series before 4252 fans on Friday night at Centre 200.
The Sydney native scored twice and added three assists as the Screaming Eagles opened the series with one their biggest offensive outputs of the season.
Haddad along with linemates Jordan Clendenning and Nick MacNeil combined for 11 points on the night.
Clendenning had a goal and three assists while MacNeil chipped in with a goal and a helper.
Robert Slaney, Dean Ouellet, Alex Lamontagne and Olivier Dame-Malka scored single markers for the Screaming Eagles.
Tom Michalik, Stefan Chaput and Danick Paquette looked after the scoring for the defending league champion Maineiacs.
Olivier Roy, honoured with the Raymond Legace Trophy as the Defensive Rookie of the Year prior to the game, picked up his first playoff win in goal for the Screaming Eagles.
Jonathan Bernier suffered the loss in goal, allowing six goals through two periods of play.
Kirk Rafuse replaced Bernier to start the third period and gave up the other two Screaming Eagles goals.
Both teams will hit the ice for Game Two in the series on Saturday night at 7:00 pm at Centre 200
