Ouellet and Slaney Multiple Winners

Dean Ouellet won four times and Robert Slaney twice as the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles held their 11th Annual Award's Banquet at Buchanan Hall, Centre 200 on Tuesday night.

Ouellet, in his fourth season with the Screaming Eagles picked up the Cape Breton Beverages Trophy as the Most Valuable Player, The Greg Lynch Memorial Award, The CJCB Fan’s Choice Award and the The Rolling Phones/Aliant Mobility Trophy as the Leading Scorer on the team.

Slaney, was given the Tim Horton’s Trophy for Outstanding Community Involvement and the Cape Breton University Trophy for Outstanding Academic Achievement and Athletic Performance. He is one of five finalists in the same category with the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

Other winners on the night were goaltender Olivier Roy who won the Rudderham’s Source for Sports Trophy as Rookie of the Year.

Defenceman Mathieu Brodeur won the MacLeod-Lorway Trophy as the team’s Most Improved Player.

Rookie forward Philippe Fontaine was awarded the Bobby Joe Ryan Memorial Trophy, a trophy donated by Molson Brewery,as the Most Sportsmanlike Player.

Chris Culligan won the Jim Hawkins Memorial Award. The award in memory of local automoblile dealer Jim Hawkins, also has a $500.00 scholarship that the winner is able to use towards their university education.

Finally, the Varsity Sportswear Trophy for Top Defenceman went to veteran Beau Prokopetz.
