Cataractes double Screaming Eagles

Shawinigan - Cape Breton Screaming Eagles head coach and general manager Pascal Vincent predicted the Shawinigan Cataractes would be a challenge and they were, doubling the Eagles 6-3 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action in front of 1,563 fans at the Jacques-Plante Arena in Shawinigan, Monday night.

The match went scoreless until 17:48 into the first when Pierre-Alexandre Vandall made it 1-0 for the Cataractes with an unassisted marker. But Screaming Eagles captain Dean Ouellet, assisted by Nicolas Chouinard, scored with less than a minute left in the period to knot things up 1-1 after 20 minutes.

Vandall again gave Shawinigan the lead with his second goal of the match 6:20 into the second period. The Eagles Alex Lamontagne, assisted by Nick MacNeil and Spencer Corcoran, evened the match up 2-2 with a tally at 17:29.

But Cedric Lalonde-McNicoll scored for the Cataractes 39 seconds later to make it 3-2 for Shawinigan after two periods.

The Screaming Eagles Joey Haddad, assisted by Ouellet and Chris Culligan, again tied it up 3-3 with a power-play marker at 7:37 in the third.

But the Cataractes went unanswered for the remainder of the contest, with a second marker by Lalonde-McNicoll at 9:19, a tally by Olivier Donais at 9:19 and an unassisted empty-netter by Sean Smyth with 23 seconds left in the game.
