Adam Leads QMJHL to Victory
Team QMJHL opened the floodgates in a big way, scoring eight goals in an 8-3 victory over Team Russia in game two of the Subway Super Series.
Screaming Eagles centre Luke Adam led the QMJHL attack with two goals and two assists.
It took just under three minutes for the home team to open the scoring in the first period. Adam fooled Russian backstop Igor Bobkov with a wrist-shot from the slot after getting a beautiful feed from Nicolas Deschamps. Play got very physical after Adam’s marker with the fans at the Bionest Centre getting treated to several crushing bodychecks.
Team Russia tied the game up at one at the midway point of the period. Kirill Petrov beat goaltender Maxime Clermont with a screened shot from the top of the face-off circle. Then, with just under four minutes remaining, Maxim Kytsin gave Team Russia the 2-1 lead with his first goal of the Subway Super Series.
Kelsey Tessier recorded a quick goal in the second frame by tipping a Michaël Bournival shot from the point. Then, Adam put Team QMJHL up 3-2 by striking for the second time in as many periods. Just a few moments later, Gabriel Bourque recorded his second goal of the Series before Voltigeurs’ captain Marc-Olivier Vachon put the home team up 5-2.
Team Russia managed to get one back before the end of the hostilities in the second period as Nikita Pivtsakin beat Moncton Wildcats netminder Louis Domingue. But it was too little too late as Team QMJHL broke away thanks to goals from Philippe Cornet, Nicolas Deschamps and Jacob Lagacé.
Adam, who registered two goals and two assists, was named the player of the game for Team QMJHL while forward Denis Golubev got the nod for the Russian squad.
The third game of the Subway Super Series goes tomorrow night in Barrie, Ontario. The puck drops at 7:00 pm (ET). Fans can watch the game on Rogers Sportsnet or on the INSINC webcast.
