Haddad Leads Eagles Past Sags

Joey Haddad was a one man scoring machine as the Screaming Eagles beat the Chicoutimi Sagueneens 3-1 before 3783 fans at the Georges Vezina Centre in Chicoutimi on Friday night.

Haddad looked after all of the Screaming Eagles scoring a natural hat trick in the third period as the Eagles erased a one-goal deficit after two periods of play.

Antoine Roussel gave the Sags a 1-0 lead with his third of the season in the second period.

In a game that saw the Screaming Eagles frustrated time and again by the goaltending of Francois Levesque, Haddad would even the score with his 5th goal of the season on a powerplay at the 4:58 mark of the third period.

He would put Cape Breton up 2-1 with his second of the game and 6th of the year at 8:03.

Then with Levesque on the Chicoutimi bench in favour of an extra attacker as they looked for the equalizer Haddad would jump on a loose puck at his own blue line and skate the length of the ice to seal the victory with his third of the game and seventh of the season.

Olivier Roy bounced back for the win in goal after giving up three goals on seven shots in Wednesday’s loss to Quebec. He picked up career win number 40 and is now 13-4 on the year.

Levesque was the losing goalie, although he was the main reason the Sags were able to keep the game close as the Screaming Eagles out shot their hosts 36-22.

The win was the third in four games for the Screaming Eagles on their five-game road trip.

They will wrap the trip up on Saturday afternoon in Baie-Comeau against the Drakkar.
