Screaming Eagles Announce "Pink At The Rink" Game

Friday, Oct 19, 2012

Sydney – The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles have designated Saturday, October 27th, 2012 as their annual “Pink at the Rink” night at Centre 200.  It is the 4th year that the Screaming Eagles will wear custom designed pink jerseys in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

This year’s event will feature the Breton Song Birds, a local women’s choir, who will be on hand for a pre-game performance and to sing the national anthem. Members of the Cape Breastoners Dragonboat team, made up of breast cancer survivors, will drop the puck in the ceremonial faceoff.

The Screaming Eagles have also ordered a limited number of pink t-shirts that will sold at the game with proceeds also being donated to this cause.

“We are asking our fans to wear as much pink as possible,” said Screaming Eagles Marketing Manager Chris Tournidis.  “Normally we ask fans to “Paint the Nest Gold”, but for October 27th, we want to “Paint the Nest PINK” in support of this great cause.”

A raffle will be held during the game where fans can purchase $5 raffle tickets with a chance to win one of 24 Screaming Eagles pink jerseys.  All player jerseys will be given away in a ceremony following the game.

Casino Nova Scotia is the presenting sponsor of the Screaming Eagles “Pink at the Rink” game and has donated the pink jerseys.  This allows all proceeds from the sale of the raffle tickets to be given directly to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation-Atlantic Division and the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation.

“Most people in Cape Breton have been affected by Breast Cancer in one way or another, so as an organization this project is something that we are very proud to support”, said Screaming Eagles General Manager – Business Operations Peter MacDonald.

On the afternoon of October 27th, the Screaming Eagles are also hosting a “Party in Pink – ZUMBA for a Cure” event at 2pm in the main concourse of Centre 200.  A special ticket package is available that includes the Zumba class and a ticket to the game for $20.  Fans who already have a game ticket can attend the Zumba class for a $10 donation.  All money raised during the event is being donated to breast cancer research.

The Screaming Eagles are also offering companies and groups a special offer that includes 10 tickets, a $50 donation, and a group welcome on the video scoreboard for $150.  For more information, on Zumba for a Cure or special group offers, contact Screaming Eagles Ticket Sales Coordinator Jerrecca Wilcox at 567-6378 ext 30 or jerrecca.wilcox@capebretoneagles.com.

The “Pink at the Rink” initiative is a project supported by all teams in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League during the month of October.
