Q & A with Simon Desmarais:

Q1: Tell us about your Minor Hockey career.

A1: I played all my minor hockey in Chambly. The name of my team was Les Forts De Chambly. I was coached by my father. I started playing hockey at age five.

Q2: Where did you play your Midget hockey?

A2: My midget team was Gaulois De St-Hyacinthe. The team was located 45 minutes away from my home so I had to stay with a billet. We won our playoffs and went to the Telus Cup, however we lost in the semi-finals.

Q3: You were selected at the 2010 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League entry draft by the Halifax Mooseheads. Tell us about your time in Halifax as well as your draft year.

A3: Playing in Halifax was big because it was my first year away from home (12 hour drive). I was new to the league and it was all english. I was in Drummondville, Quebec when they drafted me and I was happy to go there. The Mooseheads selected me in the second round.

Q4: You were later dealt you the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies where in 34 games your recorded three assists. Tell us about your time in Rouyn-Noranda.

A4: I had fun in Rouyn-Noranda. It was different from Halifax. It's a small city, small rink, french speaking community and it was also closer to my hometown. I did not have a good start to the season. I was happy to have a new start with a new team after the Christmas break.

Q5: After being traded to the Quebec Remparts where you played only one game, Patrick Roy traded you to the Screaming Eagles. What were your thoughts on being traded to the Screaming Eagles? Where you pleased with the move? Why?

A5: I was happy to be back in the Maritimes. I had fun playing against the Screaming Eagles when I was with the Mooseheads last year. It's a big battle between those teams. I have a new start like I wanted and now i'm on the good side of the "Battle of Nova Scotia".

Q6: You were born in St-Jean, Quebec however your hometown is Chambly, Quebec. Tell us a little bit about Chambly.

A6: Chambly is about 30 minutes from Montreal, Quebec. The closest team in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League to my hometown is the Drummondville Voltigeurs. It is a small city however we are close to everything. The people in Chambly are french and are all big fans of Hockey.

Q7: Tell us some interesting facts about your family.

A7: I am the little baby. I have a brother who is 19 years old and in the Military as well as a sister who is 20 years old and works as an accountant. My parents are currently working for the same company (Pratt and Whitney).

Q8: Who is the one person you would like to thank for getting you where you are today with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles? Why?

A8: Like everyone, I would like to thank my parents. They would wake me up early when I was six years old for 6am practice. They drove me to every practice and I don't think I have every been late for one in my life, for them reason's I would like to thank them.

Q9: What do you bring to the Screaming Eagles defense?

A9: Everybody who knows me knows I can hit hard. I like to finish every check and I can also fight so for sure I bring some physical play and I can also play some defense too. I like to block shots and start the play from my own zone.

Q10: What's one thing you like about Cape Breton?

A10: I like the fans. They are always there for us every game even if there is a snow storm.
