Océanic dominate Screaming Eagles

  The Rimouski Océanic built a eight goal lead in the first period and never looked back as they defeated the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles 10-3 on Sunday afternoon at Centre 200.

  Jean-Philippe Mathieu had a hat-trick in the game while Petra Straka and Jonathan Lavoie each scored a pair of goals. Francis Beauvillier, Jakub Culek and Alexandre Mallet scored single markers for the Océanic who improve to 35-23-1-0 on the season. Alexandre Lavoie found the back of the net twice while Michael Clarke netted the only other goal for the Screaming Eagles who fall to 21-33-1-2 on the season.

  Francis Beauvillier made the score 1-0 for Rimouski at 2:15 of the first period as he scored his 21st goal of the season going five-hole on Philippe Trudeau, Petr Straka and Jonathan Lavoie were given the assists.

  The Océanic took a 2-0 lead as captain Jean-Philippe Mathieu found the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season going blocker side on Trudeau at 9:17 of the opening period, Gabriel Fortin and Alexis loiseau were awarded with the assists.

  Just ten seconds later, Rimouski would take a 3-0 lead as William Carrier turned over the puck in his own zone to Petr Straka who made no mistake for his 15th goal of the season, the goal was unassisted.

  Jean-Philippe Mathieu gave the Océanic a four goal lead as he netted his second goal of the game (fifth of the season) on a beautiful deke beating Trudeau at 11:51 of the first period, Ottawa Senators prospect Jakub Culek was given the lone helper on the goal.

  Rimouski would go up 5-0 as Jonathan Lavoie fired home his fourth goal of the season at 13:38 of the opening period, Petra Straka was given the only assist.

  The Océanic made the score 6-0 as defenseman Jean-Philippe Mathieu completed the hat-trick as he scored his third goal of the game (sixth of the season) on the powerplay at 16:19, Alex Belzile and Jérôme Gauthier-Leduc added the helpers.

  Just twelve seconds later, Petr Straka gave Rimouski a 7-0 lead as he buried his second goal of the game (16th of the season) on the powerplay, Casey Babineau and Scott Oke recorded the assists.

  Rimouski would make the score 8-0 before the first period was out as Jonathan Lavoie scored his second goal of the game (fifth of the season) on the powerplay with just 16.6 seconds remaining in the period, Jérôme Gauthier-Leduc and Jakuk Culek picked up the helpers.

  Alexandre Mallet gave the Océanic a 9-0 lead as he found the back of the net for his 25th goal of the season at 10:40 of the second period, goaltender Jacob Gervais-Chouinard was awarded with the lone assist.

  Rimouski would make the score 10-0 as Jakuk Culek buried his 12th goal of the season past William Racicot at 15:07 of the middle period, Scott Oke and Jérôme Gauthier-Leduc were given credit for the helpers.

  The Screaming Eagles cut the Océanic lead to nine as Alexandre Lavoie scored his 18th goal of the season beating Rimouski goaltender Jacob Gervais-Chouinard on the glove side at 5:17 of the third period, William Carrier added the only helper.

  Just seconds later, Michael Clarke made the score 10-2 as he buried his 12th goal of the season, Denis Kindl and Alexandre Lavoie picked up the assists.

  Alexandre Lavoie would score another goal before the game was over as he netted his second goal of the game (19th of the season) at 13:13 of the final frame, Mikael Langlois and Michael Clarke recorded the helpers.

  Jacob Gervais-Chouinard made 13 saves in the win for Rimouski, his record improves to 25-13-0-0 while Philippe Trudeau allowed seven goals on 13 shots and William Racicot allowed four goals on 32 shots in the contest, Trudeau did pick up the loss in goal, his record falls to 14-20-1-2.

  The Screaming Eagles next game is Thursday (February 23rd) as they host former Eagle captain Morgan Ellis, Maximilien Le Sieur and the Shawinigan Cataractes. Game time is scheduled for 7pm from Centre 200.

Not in the lineup for Rimouski: Forwards, Robbie DeFullviis and Jean-François Plante along with defenseman Étienne Boutet

Pre-game: Shelly Hillier (Manager of Boston Pizza (Sydney) ), Cheryl Card (Boston Pizza Franchise) and Boston Pizza Mascot "Lionel" made a cheque presentation to the YMCA Strong Kids Program. Members of the Screaming Eagles served at Boston Pizza on Thursday night with a portion of all sales being donated to the Strong Kids Program. In total over $1000 was raised!

Eight goal first period by Rimouski: The Rimouski Océanic scored eight goals in the first period to lead the game 8-0 after one period of play. Among the goal scorers for Rimouski in the first period was Océanic captain Jean-Philippe Mathieu who recorded a hat-trick in the opening period.

Leduc given game misconduct: Screaming Eagle defenseman Loic Leduc was given a five minute major and a game misconduct for cross-checking at the 15:41 mark of the first period.

Fight: There was one fight in the game. Blake Millman (Cape Breton) Vs. Alexandre Mallet (Rimouski).

Final shots on goal: 45-16 in favor of Rimouski.

Rimouski went 3/7 on the powerplay while Cape Breton was not given a chance on the man advantage.

Dickies hardest working player of the game went to Stephen Woodworth.
